The Pico da Bandeira (translated roughly "flag top") is the third highest mountain in Brazil at 2,891.9 m .
The last measurement of the mountain heights in Brazil took place in 2004 via satellite and surprisingly new height information was also obtained for the highest mountain in the country, the Pico da Neblina (2994 m).
The Pico da Bandeira is located in the border area of the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo in the south-east of Brazil in the Serra de Caparaó mountains . Since the mountain, in contrast to Pico da Neblina, is located in an area that is densely populated by Brazilian standards and the Amazon lowlands were only explored and measured more closely at a late stage, Pico da Bandeira was long thought to be the highest mountain in Brazil. Another effect of the central location is that it is popular with mountaineers from the wealthy southeast and, thanks to the well-equipped infrastructure, it is the best climbed and best-signposted mountain in Brazil.
