The Pico da Neblina is the highest mountain in Brazil at around 2994 m . It is located in close proximity to the border with Venezuela and belongs to the Serra da Neblina, which in turn is part of the Serra do Imeri. The summit of the Neblina is located in the 22,000 km² Pico da Neblina National Park in the state of Amazonas . The nearest town, São Gabriel da Cachoeira , is about 140 km as the crow flies.
The Pico da Neblina belongs to the Serra-do-Imeri massif. The second highest mountain Pico 31 de Março with 2973 m is also located in the Pico da Neblina National Park . Neblina is the Portuguese word for fog . In 1965 it was first ascent by members of the Brazilian armed forces .
The park is currently officially closed to the public.
