Picot de Sai
Picot de Sai (11th century; † 1098 ), actually Robert de Sai or de Say , was a Norman nobleman and Lord of Clun . He came from Sai in Normandy , after which he was named, and came to England during or shortly after the Norman conquest . As a follower of Roger de Montgomerie , he built Clun Castle and Caus Castle in Shropshire in the Welsh Marches , which was named after Picot's homeland Pays de Caux . In the Domesday Book he is named as lord of 27 estates in Shropshire. Clun Castle became the center of a barony of the Welsh Marches.
With his wife Adeloia , the widow of William de Coimes , he had several children, including Henry, Robert and a daughter who married the Welsh prince Cadwgan ap Bleddyn . His name was later Anglicized to Robert de Say, his heir and successor as Lord of Clun was his son Henry de Say.
