The Pielavesi is a lake north of Kuopio in the Finnish landscape of Northern Savo . It is about 23 km long and has an area of 110.1 km². The height of its water level is 102.3 m. The center of the homonymous municipality of Pielavesi is located on the southern shore of the lake . The Pielavesi is fed by the outflows from the lakes Koivujärvi and Lampaanjärvi . Its drain, leading to Lake Nilakka , is at the southern end.
The Pielavesi forms the end point of a canal system that starts from the Päijänne . There its water flows over the lakes Nilakka, Iisvesi , Konnevesi and some further. The Pielavesi is therefore in the catchment area of the Kymijoki , the approximately 200 km long outflow of the Päijänne into the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea).
