Piergiuseppe Scardigli

Piergiuseppe Scardigli (born October 13, 1933 in Altopascio , † May 27, 2008 in Florence ) was an Italian Germanic medievalist and linguist .

He taught and researched with a focus on topics of ancient and medieval Germanic languages, literature and culture. Until his retirement in 1996, Scardigli was a full professor of Germanic Philology at the University of Florence .

His wife is the German ancient historian Barbara Scardigli. In 2005, the couple from the University of Frankfurt am Main donated the Barbara and Piergiuseppe Scardigli Prize for small humanities subjects , which is endowed with € 3,000 and is awarded every three years. Humanities projects that deal with the cultures of Europe are funded.
