Facade of the Pierides Museum, Larnaka

The Pierides Museum in Larnaka is considered the second most important archaeological museum in Cyprus after the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia . It is one of two archaeological museums in Larnaka, Cyprus.

building

The museum is housed in a neo-colonial style villa built in 1840 and inhabited by the Pierides diplomatic family. This family put the collections together over several generations. The family served as a consular for the German Empire, Austria, the United States and England. Since the year 2000, the museum has been largely supported by the Cyprus Popolar Bank .

In five halls and the corridor, it shows archaeological finds from the area around Larnaka from the Neolithic through ancient times to the Middle Ages. Ceramic finds dominate. Historical engravings from Cyprus are also shown. The ceramic exhibits include imported goods from the regions around Cyprus as well as Cypriot products, especially in the kypro-geometric free-field style (approx. 700 to 475 BC).
