Piero Ignazi

Piero Ignazi (* 1951 ) is an Italian political scientist .

Ignazi studied political science at the University of Bologna until 1974 and from 1976 to 1978 at the Department of Political and Social Science of the European University Institute in Florence and 1978/79 funded by the Fulbright-Hays Foundation at the Department of Political Science at MIT in Cambridge (MA). He then taught in Bologna and Rende. In 2000 he became full professor for comparative political science at the political science faculty of the University of Bologna.

Visiting professorships and fellowships have taken him to Tunisia, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United Kingdom and the USA. Since 2004 he has been a member of the management (from 2009 to 2011 director) of the social science journal Il Mulino and since 2001 a member of the editorial board of the journal Rivista Italiana di Scienza Politica published by the Società Italiana di Scienza Politica . From 2003 to 2011 he was a member of the Editorial Board of the International Political Science Review .

Since 2006 he has been Chairman of Research Committee No. 6 ( Political Sociology ) of the International Political Science Association and No. 18 (Political Sociology) of the International Sociological Association .
