Piero Natoli (actually Pietro Natoli ; born November 22, 1946 in Rome ; † May 8, 2001 ibid) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Natoli's family comes from Sicily; he graduated in law and worked in 1969 as an assistant to Pier Paolo Pasolini , later to Silvano Agosti . He then shot reports and documentaries for Italian television. In 1978 he presented his first cinema work. Armonica a bocca won the grand prize of the "Incontri Internazionali del Cinema" in Sorrento , but did not find regular distribution. Natoli had more luck with the follow-up work, the excellent and very personal crisis analysis Con fusion , in which - as in all of his films - he played himself. Active since 1984 for other directors as an excellent actor of a number of unforgettable characters, the declaration of love for cinema, Ladri di cinema from 1994 , stands out among his other works .

Natoli, loved by the audience and his colleagues for his kindness and generosity, died of the effects of a cerebral haemorrhage during a stay in a gym.
