Pierre-Louis Villot-Dufey or Du Feÿ (* 1664 in Montpellier , † August 19, 1736 in Paris ) was a French actor.

Life

Pierre-Louis Villot-Dufey made his debut in the role of Nicoméde in 1694 at the Comédie-Française , of which he became a partner in 1695. He initially played tragic and comic supporting roles. In 1700 he played Agénor in the comedy Démocrite by Jean-François Regnard . As spokesman for the troops, he defended the royal privileges with the authorities, because the theaters of the fairs drew many spectators away from the Comédie-Française, which saw dangerous competition. After numerous lawsuits, the Comédie-Française obtained a ban on performances with dialogues. The fairground players should limit themselves to tight-rope dancing, juggling and performances without high-level conversation. But these thwarted the prohibitions with cunning and wit through monologues, jargon conversations and the display of tablets. The situation has now deteriorated dramatically. In 1709, according to a court decision , Dufey and Dancourt, contrary to a contradicting higher-level decree, had the Swiss Holtz's pen on the St. Germain market torn down by bailiffs. They were each sentenced to a fine of 360 livres and the comedy itself to 6,000 livres. Only a year later did the Private Royal Council concede the judgment of the Grand Council. Dufey retired in 1712 together with his wife Marie-Anne Deschamps, daughter of the actor Villiers the Younger, and died on August 19, 1736 at the age of 72.
