Pierre Bernard ( Erasmus Prize 2006)

Pierre Bernard (born February 25, 1942 in Paris ; † November 23, 2015 ) was a French graphic artist . He was first a member and later head of L'Atelier Création Graphique in Paris, an organization he founded with Dirk Behage and Fokker Draaijer . In 2006 he received the important Dutch Erasmus Prize . In 1970 he founded the graphic collective Grapus , which artistically implemented left and communist visions. Since 1987 he has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale . He worked as a graphic teacher at ENSAD, the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. As a graphic designer, Bernard was considered to be just as important as the Swiss Niklaus Troxler and Werner Jeker or Eiko Ishioka from Japan.

On November 23, 2015, Bernard died of cancer.
