Niklaus Troxler

Niklaus Troxler (born May 1, 1947 in Willisau ) is a Swiss graphic artist. Since the late 1960s he has been organizing jazz events on a regular basis and in 1975 he founded the Willisau Jazz Festival , which he also directed until 2010.

Troxler studied at the Lucerne School of Design . After working as Art Director in Paris (1972), he founded his own graphics studio in Willisau. He has been organizing jazz concerts in Willisau since 1966, and an annual international jazz festival since 1975, for which he regularly designs posters and record covers - for example for Irène Schweizer .

He received important international design prizes such as the Toulouse Lautrec Medal in Gold (1987 and 1994), the Grand Prix and First Prizes in Lahti / Finland 1993, at the Chaumont Festival de l'affiche (1992), in Helsinki / Finland 1995, Hong Kong 2000, Hangzhou / China 2002, Ningbo / China 2006, Taiwan 2005, Colorado / USA 2006. In 1982 he was awarded the Central Switzerland Culture Prize.

Troxler is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale . His posters are represented in the most important international design collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Toyama / Japan, the Museum of Art and Crafts in Hamburg, the German Poster Museum in Essen and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

From 1998 to 2013 he taught as a professor for communication design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart .
