Edmond Pierre Ernest Braine (born October 26, 1900 in Berchem , Antwerp , † November 6, 1951 in Antwerp) was a Belgian football player . The midfielder competed for Beerschot VAC as well as in the national team of his home country .
career
As a youth, Pierre Braine played for Beerschot VAC , a forerunner of today's Germinal Beerschot , in whose senior team he was to play for 14 years. He won the Belgian championship five times with his club .
Braine was also a member of the Belgian national team for eight years , for which he played 46 games and with which he took part in two major tournaments: in 1928 at the Summer Olympics and two years later at the first ever World Cup , Braine wore the Diables Rouges jersey .
On November 6, 1951, he died of a heart attack in a café in Antwerp.
His younger brother Raymond is considered one of the best Belgian football players before the Second World War and was also the first professional football player in his home country. His son Roger , born in 1930, was also briefly active in the top Belgian football league, but only with moderate success.
