Pierre Danican Philidor
Pierre Danican Philidor (born August 22, 1681 in Paris , † September 1, 1731 in Versailles ) was a French composer at the court of Louis XIV. From the Philidor family of musicians .
He was the son of Jacques Danican Philidor , also a nephew of André Danican Philidor and was also called "le cadet". In 1697, the sixteen-year-old's first stage work, a " Pastorale ", was performed at court. In the same year he became oboist and violinist of the “Grande Ecurie du Roy”, and from 1704 at the “Chapelle royale”. From 1716 he had the honor of playing the viol in the king's chamber (chambre du roi). The compositions he made at a young age seem lost, including the Pastorale (rural musical drama). He is best known for his “Six Suites” and six other suites for upper voices (dessus) and figured bass.
