Pierre Fix-Masseau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pierre Fix-Masseau (* 1905 , † 1994 ) was a French graphic artist and son of Pierre-Félix Fix-Masseau .

Biographical note

Fix-Masseau studied at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He started working for the Paris printer Nortier in 1927. A year later he became a student of the Ukrainian-French illustrator AM Cassandre in Versailles. Alongside Rex Whistler (1905–1944) and Cassandre, Pierre Fix-Masseau is considered the leading poster draftsman of his epoch, the Art Deco era. Traffic was a popular Art Deco theme (contrasted with the dynamism that the theme requires is the frozen geometric shape). Between 1929 and 1939 he worked for the Paris publishing house Edita, after the war for the publishing house Aljanvic, as well as for a number of large companies (Shell, Air France, Philips) and Loterie Nationale.
