Pierre Jean Van der Ouderaa
Pierre Jean Van der Ouderaa (born January 13, 1841 in Antwerp , † January 5, 1915 ibid) was a Belgian painter of religious and historical motifs and portraits.
Van der Ouderaa studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen with Jakob Albert Jacobs , Joseph van Lerius and Nicaise de Keyser . He won the second prize in Rome in 1865 and spent three years in Italy , also visiting the Orient and Spain .
He was the author of great historical compositions of an academic nature and has won numerous medals in Lyon, London and Antwerp.
In 1893 he went on a study trip to Palestine with Karel Ooms and Max Rooses . Van der Ouderaa then devoted himself to religious painting and the scenes of the oriental genre.
Van der Ouderaa was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Leopold in 1881 . In 1895 he was appointed professor at the Antwerp Art Academy. The reproductions of his paintings appeared in the " Gartenlaube "
