Pierre La Mure
Pierre La Mure (born June 15, 1899 in Nice , † December 28, 1976 in California ) was a French writer .
Life
Pierre La Mure was born in Nice on June 15, 1899 . He later studied law at the University of Aix-en-Provence and at the Sorbonne .
La Mure wrote a number of world-famous biographical novels. First he wrote the book King of the Night in 1937 , which is about the life of John D. Rockefeller . He lived in France until World War II and then immigrated to the United States . Moulin Rouge , based on the life of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec , was his first major success. The novel was made into a film by John Huston in 1952 , and the film later won two Academy Awards. His other works dealt with the lives of Cécile and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Claude Debussy . Little is known about the writer's later life. He died in California in 1976 at the age of 76.
