Pierre Morency , OC , CQ (* 1942 in Lauzon , Québec ) is a Canadian writer and poet .

Life

Pierre Morency studied at the Collège de Lévis until 1963 and then at the Université Laval until 1966. He then worked for a few years as a teacher.

In order to have a living, he eventually went to Radio Canada in Québec . For the station he wrote more than 200 texts as well as a series of 60 programs about the nature of Canada (especially the bird world ).

The author, who has made a name for himself especially in the field of poetry , successfully combines his knowledge of nature and the history of his country with poetry. An example of this is Histoires naturelles du Nouveau Monde (three volumes), the first volume of which was published in 1989. In his very poetic texts, which often lie on the borderline between poetry and prose, Morency always tries to take on a mediating role between nature and man.

He has received numerous prizes for his work, such as the Prix de l'Institut Canada de Québec and the Prix Athanase-David (2000). In 1993 he received the title Chevalier de l ' Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République and a bust on the Sentiers Poétiques de Saint-Venant-de Paquette.

He also campaigns for his colleagues in a French-Canadian writers' association ( Union des écrivains québécois ), which he co-founded in 1977.
