Pierre Robert Colas

Pierre Robert Colas (born January 13, 1976 in London , † August 26, 2008 in Nashville ) was a German ancient and Mesoamericanist.

Life

After living temporarily in Mexico during his childhood and developing an interest in the Maya culture, Colas began studying Mesoamerican Studies in Hamburg in 1995 , which he completed in 1999 with a master's degree. In 2004 he did his doctorate in Bonn on classical Maya names and in 2006 became Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University.

From 1998 until his death he was a member of the "Northern Vaca Plateau Geoarchaeology Project" and did research on Maya cave archeology. From 2005 to 2006 he carried out intensive field research in San Antonio, Cayo District, Belize, as part of an Emmy Noether Postdoctoral Fellowship.

He died of a crime at the age of 32.
