Pierre Welté Whalon (born November 12, 1952 in Newport (Rhode Island) ) is Bishop of the Convocation of American Churches in Europe .

Whalon studied music and philosophy. In 1972 he completed his bachelor's degree in philosophy in Caen . In 1974 followed a bachelor's degree in music from Boston University . Further musical studies followed. In 1977 he graduated from the Schola Cantorum in Paris with a diploma in harmony and counterpoint studies. This was followed by a Masters in Church Music from Duquesne University in 1981.

1985 ended Whalon his theological studies at Virginia Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. In the same year he was ordained a deacon . He was ordained a priest in December of the same year . After various pastoral stations in the USA , Whalon was elected bishop by the convocation. It was consecrated in November 2001 by Frank Tracy Griswold as well as John W. Howe and Jeffrey William Rowthorn in the Church of St. Paul's-within-the-Walls in Rome . His bishopric is the American Cathedral in Paris . Whalon also holds the office of assistant bishop in the Catholic diocese of the Old Catholics in Germany .

Bishop Whalon writes for various print and online media, including published a number of articles in Tribune 2000 , a liberal Roman Catholic magazine.

Whalon has both US and French citizenship . He has been married to Melinda Jane McCulloch since 1980, with whom he has a daughter, Marie-Noëlle, who was born in 1988. Both have an interest in church music .
