Pierrepoint was a German music project founded in 1992 by David Kirvel and Thomas Leppkes in Krefeld .

history

In 1992 Kirvel and Leppkes met. After the release of the two demo tapes Pierrepoint and Call and Warning , the debut Slices of Death was released in 1993 . The first differences within the project made themselves felt when the album was recorded. While Leppkes preferred the wave direction , Kirvel was drawn to the rhythmic electro-industrial environment.

Thomas Leppkes then left Pierrepoint. David Kirvel continued the project on his own. This change was soon reflected in the music of the following EP Eibon . On this EP, Kirvel - clearly influenced by the Belgian electro-industrial formation Dive - first created the sound with which Pierrepoint was to gain international fame in the 1990s.

In the following years David Kirvel worked again and again with other musicians who also supported Pierrepoint live, for example with the Belgian Johan van Roy from Suicide Commando or Patrick Bulheller from the German electro project Page 12 . With Patrick Bulheller, David Kirvel produced the title Helpless under the name "Alien Sylva's Womb" , which appeared in 1995 on the compilation Celtic Circle Sampler Part 3 . Also with Patrick Bulheller and together with Johan van Roy, Kirvel planned a joint project called "db.F". This collaboration resulted in the track Retrace , an instrumental that combines the early sound of Suicide Commando with that of Pierrepoint. Retrace appeared in 1997 on the compilation Binary Application Extension 04.

In addition, David Kirvel contributed the backing vocals to the track pain gate by the Belgian band "AïBoFoRcEn", which was released in 1995 on the album Elixir Lytique .

Pierrepoint caused a stir with the 1997 title Kim, which is about child abuse and child murder. “Kim” stands for Kim Kerkow, a ten-year-old girl who was kidnapped, abused and killed by the merchant Rolf Diesterweg in early 1997. The word samples used in the track “Get ready to fuck, fucking cunt…! Cunt! Cunt, don't look at me! ”Come from the David Lynch film classic Blue Velvet with Dennis Hopper and Kyle McLachlan. Despite the shocking effect, Kim was able to develop into a club hit in some discos.

At about the same time, David Kirvel started the side project “NME” and in 1998 released the 7-inch vinyl single High Volume / Advent, limited to 300 units, on the American label Possessive Blondfold Recordings . The tracks of the single are also kept purely instrumental, but their sound is increasingly directed towards the rhythm & noise area.

In 1999, Pierrepoint celebrated another club hit with … they are not green . The song was remixed for the fourth album Pulsing Redlight / Reconstruct by Suicide Comando, among others. A year later Kirvel worked with the electro project Cycloon (side project of the "Page 12" 'singer Axel Kleintjes) and was involved in the recordings for the album Head | Over | Now .

At the turn of the millennium, the music of Pierrepoint changed, the hard, rhythmic electro-industrial sounds were increasingly replaced by techno elements, the singing gradually faded into the background. With the album Noizefloor , the last work to date was released in 2002, a continuation of the project is uncertain. David Kirvel has been active since 2005 under the name "Krzon".

Surname

The band name comes from Albert Pierrepoint , a British executioner who embodied death and destructiveness for Kirvel and Leppkes . He died in the year the band was founded. In addition, the name underlined Kirvel's positive attitude towards the death penalty.
