Pihla Viitala (born September 30, 1982 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish actress.

Life

Pihla Viitala began her acting training in 2004 at the Theater Academy in Helsinki. She received her first feature film role in 2007 in the Finnish film Ganes . Her breakthrough came in 2008 with the lead role in Tears of April - The Unyielding . Her first foreign feature film came out in 2009. She played the lead role in the English language Icelandic horror film Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre . In 2010 she received the European Shooting Star at the Berlin International Film Festival and presented her latest film Bad Family ( Paha perhe ), which was produced by Aki Kaurismäki , in the Panorama section during the festival . In 2013 she played the supporting role of the white witch Mina in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters .

In addition to her native Finnish , Pihla Viitala also speaks English , French and Swedish . From 2004 to 2008 she was married to the musician Kerkko Koskinen .
