A pilgrim's bottle is a glass or ceramic vessel with a round belly that is flattened on one or two sides, a short neck angled by 30 degrees to the broad side and a funnel-shaped mouth. It was made in forest glass works or pottery from 1500 to 1720 . The flat shape made it close to the body to carry the pilgrims bottle in a shoulder bag or even in a smaller bottle size like a hip flask in breast pocket to put.
A special form is the Corpus Christi bottle, in which a Jesus figure made of glass is attached between the neck and the belly or in a recess on the belly .
The formal development goes from the ampulla (ball bottle ) to the pilgrim bottle to the Bocksbeutel .
