Pilk rod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pilk rod is a strong, usually short rod that is used for fishing from a boat or cutter .

When pirk fishing , a paternoster or a so-called pirk (a kind of heavy spoon ) is lowered vertically into the water - depending on the target fish down to the bottom of the water .

When the fish is hooked, it is lifted to the surface by lifting the pilk rod and then winding the line. When the fish is hauled in and landed, the rod is sometimes exposed to heavy loads and must therefore have a stiff backbone. It is advisable to use a gaff to help , especially when landing larger fish .
