Pilosocereus vilaboensis is a species of plant in the genus Pilosocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the old place name Vila Boa.

description

Pilosocereus vilaboensis grows shrubby, branches at the base and reaches heights of up to 1.4 meters. The upright, smooth, green shoots have a diameter of 3.5 to 5.5 centimeters. There are 12 to 16 ribs. The translucent golden to pink thorns are sometimes bristle-like. The 2 to 8 protruding central spines are 0.4 to 3 inches long. The 10 to 20 spread radial spines are 4 to 30 millimeters long. The flowering part of the shoots is weak. The flowering areoles are scattered near the shoot tip and have gold-colored bristles and long, white hair.

The funnel-shaped, gradually enlarged flowers are up to 5 centimeters long and 3 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The spherical fruits have a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters and contain a white pulp.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Pilosocereus vilaboensis is common in the Brazilian state of Goiás . The first description as Pseudopilocereus vilaboensis was published in 1983 by Lothar Diers and Eddie Esteves Pereira (* 1939). Pierre Josef Braun (* 1959) placed them in the genus Pilosocereus in 1988 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
