Pilumnus koepckei is a crab from the family of Pilumnidae .

The holotype was collected by Hans-Wilhelm Koepcke in Cancas , Peru.

description

In Pilumnus koepckei the carapace is smooth and strongly arched from back to front. The front part has loose and stiff bristles. Its front edge has three pointed teeth, which are provided with stiff individual bristles at the base. The carapace of the male holotype is 12 mm wide and 9 mm long with a body height of 7 mm. The palms of the big scissors are only roughly granulated, hardly thorny, with bristles in between. The first gonopod is slender and has a gooseneck- like appearance and has bristles on one side in its curvature.

distribution and habitat

Pilumnus koepckei is included in the Peruvian crustacean catalog, so far there have been no new finds from there. The species has also been reported from Ecuador and Mexico. It lives in the shallow water of marine sandy beaches, but also up to a depth of 4 fathoms (= approx. 7.3 m).
