Pinchas (son of Eli)
Pinchas was a son of the high priest Eli and brother of Hofni mentioned in the Tanach / Old Testament . He is not to be confused with Pinchas , the son of Eleazar .
Pinchas performed the priestly service at the sanctuary in Silo ( 1 Sam 1,3 EU ) together with his brother . In doing so, they sinned: Pinchas as well as Hofni appropriated the pilgrims' offerings ( 1 Sam 2.12–17 EU ) and associated with prostitutes in front of the sanctuary ( 1 Sam 2.22 EU ). They accompanied the ark on the campaign against the Philistines ( 1 Sam 4,4 EU ). Both perished in the battle of Afek ( 1 Sam 4,11 EU ). Pinchas' wife gave birth to their son Ikabod after his death ( 1 Sam 4,19-22 EU ).
