Walter Bogs

Walter Bogs (born April 3, 1899 in Bromberg ; † 1991 ) was a German lawyer with significant influence on German social legislation after 1949.

Career

After military service in World War I from 1917, he studied law in Marburg and Berlin from 1919 to 1922 . He initially worked for the General German Trade Union Federation and as a judge at the Labor Court in Berlin. From 1933 Bogs, who had been a member of the NSDAP since April 1, was a permanent member of the Reich Insurance Office , where he rose from the Government Council (1933) to the Upper Government Council (1937) and Government Director (1943) to the Senate President (1944). From 1946 on he was a lecturer at the University of Göttingen , in the main office judge at the Göttingen District and Social Court. In 1949 he was appointed full professor at the University for Work, Politics and Economics in Wilhelmshaven. 1951/1952 he was rector of this university. From 1954 to 1967 he was Senate President at the Federal Social Court in Kassel, since 1965 Vice-President of the Court and from 1958 to 1978 a member of the Federal Government's Social Advisory Council . In 1954 the University of Göttingen appointed him honorary professor.

In addition, he was a member of countless other advisory bodies: his report on social security law, which he drafted for the Federal Ministry of Labor in 1954 , laid the foundation for the subsequent pension reform of 1957 . He was a member of the advisory board for the reorganization of social benefits at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (since 1954); the social advisory board for statutory pension insurance (from 1958 to the 1970s); the Social Enquête Commission (1964 to 1966); the Social Code Commission (1969 to 1976); the Commission for the Reform of Health Insurance Law (since 1970), which he headed.
