The Pinderpark is a settlement in the Middle Franconian town of Zirndorf .

geography

The approximately 2.5 km² large settlement is located on a gentle ridge southwest of the city center of Zirndorf.

history

In 1938, a barracks in the " Franconian style" was built on the ridge outside the city . a. Erected with a striking archway for the then air force of the Wehrmacht .

After the Second World War, the barracks of which was US Army based and in honor of the Normandy fallen soldier John J. Pinder Jr. in Pinder Barracks named.

When the last American troops withdrew from the region in 1995, the city of Zirndorf planned over planning the barracks area and the conversion of the barracks into a new settlement began step by step. The first construction work took place in 1997 in the north-western part of the barracks. There a new school complex was built between the former north access and the baseball field of the barracks for the state secondary school of the district of Fürth , which was previously housed in Oberasbach .

Further steps follow with the establishment of a commercial center of the urban development company and the new building of the district office of the district of Fürth, which was previously located outside the district in the independent city of Fürth . The name of the street “Im Pinderpark” was also coined here. At the same time, built by the town of Zirndorf , the park on the former parade ground was also created, a park now directly west of the district administration building.

After the remaining area had been temporarily used (e.g. as an alternative building for a nursing home), it was acquired by a major investor in April 2003 in order to build a new residential and commercial area after the development was demolished.

Nowadays, the only reminder of the former barracks is the striking sandstone-faced archway, which was integrated between the modern glass and steel architecture of the district administration and the commercial center. The former guard building at the main entrance with its connected cell wing still exists.

In parallel to constant residential and isolated commercial development, a 2-group kindergarten was put into operation in the center of Pinderpark on Ruth-Bader-Platz in autumn 2006 . In spring 2008, a newly built playground was inaugurated. This now largest communal playground in Zirndorf has been very well received by the young population since then. Another major construction project was a nursing home in the center of the area, which was opened in 2009.

traffic

Up until 2007, the district was only accessible to a limited extent via streets by the secondary school via the narrowed access through the archway and via Jakob-Wassermann-Straße. As a result, the construction of the Zirndorfer Westspange, which was actually planned later by the district of Fürth as the building contractor, was accelerated by advance financing from the city of Zirndorf and was inaugurated on November 21, 2007. Thus, with the Westspange, a powerful main access road is available for the Pinderpark.

The streets of the actual district itself were named after famous German writers, the squares and green spaces after the deceased second mayors of Zirndorf's post-war history.
