Pingvin Island ( Russian Пингвин Pingwin , German 'Penguin' ) is a small island off the Leopold and Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located off the northwestern edge of the West Ice Shelf in the Davis Sea .
Soviet scientists who first mapped it between 1956 and 1957 made the naming. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated these into English in 1962 in an adapted form. The existence of this island is doubted in some sources.
