Pink Life Queer Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pink Life Queer Festival is a German festival with films about the life of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people ( LGBTI ) and should take place in Ankara . The cultural festival, which was organized for the first time in 2017, wanted to show works by German filmmakers on different forms of sexual self-definition with the support of the German Embassy in Ankara . It should take place on November 16-17, 2017.

The governor of Ankara banned the first edition of the festival. The announced films could "stir up hatred and hostility towards other parts of society" and pose a threat to public safety, he said in his statement. In Turkey homosexuality is not punishable.

The festival wanted to show four films by German directors in different cinemas. 2017 would have included From the skin of Jan Braren and Unsaid by Sophie Charlotte Conrad .

Reactions to the ban

Minister of State Michael Roth (SPD) declared via the short message service Twitter: "The freedom of art and the rights of minorities are inviolable."
