Pio Zamuner

Pio Roberto Zamuner (* 1935 in Chiarano ; † January 20, 2012 in São Paulo ) was an Italian - Brazilian film director and cameraman .

Zamuner came to Brazil in 1951, where his family had fled from the post-war poverty in their homeland. For ten years he worked in various professions; he was a gardener and ran an ice cream parlor. In 1962 he came to the film industry. From 1970 onwards, Zamuner directed thirteen films in his adopted country, many of them with the comedian Amácio Mazzaropi . As a cameraman, Zamuner photographed over 40 films by others between 1968 and 1987. Occasionally he also played roles in his films; for five of them he contributed the script.

Zamuner and Mazzaropi also celebrated international success with the film Um Caipira em Bariloche . In Brazil alone it was seen by over two million cinema-goers.
