The Kodunkundranathar Temple at Piranmalai

The Piranmalai is identified with the mountain Parambu, which is mentioned several times in the old Tamil Sangam literature as the place of the high fortress of Prince Pari . At the foot of the mountain there is a Hindu temple in which the god Shiva is worshiped under the name Kodunkundranathar . This was sung in the 7th century in the Tevaram hymns of the poet saint Sambandar . Piranmalai is one of the 274 holy places of Tamil Shaivism ( Padal Petra Sthalams ). At the top of the mountain is an Islamic sanctuary, the Dargah ("holy tomb") of the Sufi saint Waliyullah Sheikh Abdullah Saheb.
