Pitstop II

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pitstop II is a Formula 1 racing game that was developed in 1984 by the game company Epyx for the Commodore 64 (published in Europe by the US Gold company ). The game allows head-to-head races on a horizontally split screen. It's the sequel to Pitstop , released in 1983, and has been ported to many popular platforms.

description

The aim of the game is to complete a Formula 1 racetrack in a certain time. Pitstop II is played in split-screen mode. If only one player is set, the computer takes over the vehicle in the lower area of the screen. Pitstop II offers a total of six different race tracks: Hockenheim (Germany), Sebring (USA), Brands Hatch (England), Watkins Glen (USA), Rouen (France) and Vallelunga (Italy). The other vehicles that show up during the race and need to be overtaken are pure dummies.

For 1984 already groundbreaking features were fuel consumption and tire wear. The more often the car collides with another car, the more stress is put on the tires - each of the four tires individually. The condition of the tire is indicated by a colored marking on the tread. The color of new tires is initially black and changes to lighter colors as they wear. Once the marking is white, a single further touch is enough to stop it prematurely. Once a tire has burst, the race is over. Damaged tires can be changed in the box. The player controls a mechanic who drags the individual tires back and forth and also changes them. Refueling must also take place in the box. Pay attention to the fuel gauge, because overfilling the tank leads to an empty tank, and you start over with filling the tank.

Ports

The game was released for the following systems: Apple II , Atari-8-bit , PC Booter and Tandy TRS-80
