Coordinates: 33 ° 41 '  S , 151 ° 18'  O Pittwater Council was a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Pittwater was part of the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area was 91 km² and last had about 57,000 inhabitants. In 2016 the Northern Beaches Council got it on.

Pittwater was on the northeastern edge of Sydney on the Pacific coast about 20 to 30 km from the city center. The area included 55 neighborhoods: Avalon , Avalon Heights, Avalon North, Avalon Plateau, Barranjoey, Bayview, Bayview Heights, Bilgola, Bilgola Beach, Bilgola plateau, Bungan Beach, Bungan Head, Careel Bay, Careel Head, Church Point, Clareville, Clareville Beach, Coasters Retreat, Currawong Beach, Elanora, Elanora Heights, Elvina Bay, Foleys Hill, Loquat Valley, Lovett Bay, Mackerel Beach, Great Mackerel Beach, McCarrs Creek, Mona Vale, Morning Bay, Newport , Newport Beach, Newport Heights, Newport Plateau, Palm Beach, Paradise Beach, Salt Pan Cove, Sand Point, Scotland Island, Stokes Point, Taylors Point, The Basin, Towlers Bay, Tumbledown Dick, Turimetta, Warriewood, Warriewood Beach, South Warriewood and Whale Beach and parts of Ingleside, Ingleside Heights, Narrabeen, Narrabeen Peninsula and North Narrabeen. The administrative headquarters of the council was in the Mona Vale district on the south coast.

The Pittwater Council had nine members elected by the residents of the three wards (three each from the Southern, Central and Northern Ward). These three districts were defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
