Pivaloyl group
In organic chemistry, the pivaloyl group is the radical - (C = O) -C (CH 3 ) 3 , which is composed of a tert - butyl group and the carbonyl group and thus corresponds to pivalic acid without its hydroxyl group . It is therefore an acyl group . The pivaloyl group is sometimes abbreviated in specialist circles as Piv .
By reacting pivalic acid chloride with alcohols or amines , esters or amides with pivaloyl groups can be obtained according to the Schotten-Baumann method (or according to Einhorn in pyridine ).
