The Pizzo Groppera is a 2948 m high mountain in the province of Sondrio in Italy. It is located between the higher peaks Pizzo d'Emet (Rhaeto-Romanic Piz Timun ) and Pizzo Stella on the watershed between the North Sea and the Mediterranean or the Adriatic . The municipal boundary between Campodolcino and Madesimo runs over the summit . The Valle di Lei on its northeast flank is the only part of the Italian national territory that drains into the North Sea.

The Pizzo Groppera can be reached from Madesimo with the La Funivia del Groppera cable car and is of touristic importance as a ski and snowboard area. The steep and difficult Canalone descent is particularly well known.

Transmitter

The mountain gained political importance in 1979 when a radio station on its summit served as a transmitter for the then pirate station Radio 24 and covered Zurich from Italy . The choice of location resulted from the Italian legislation, liberal in relation to radio stations, the height of the mountain and the relative proximity to the city of Zurich (125 km as the crow flies).
