Place d'Armes (Luxembourg)
The Place d'Armes (German: Paradeplatz ) is a central square in Luxembourg (city) . Together with the Knuedler, it forms the center of the city. It is part of the pedestrian zone and lined with numerous street cafes. Concerts take place here regularly in summer.
The parade ground, popularly called Plëss , was escaped from Utrecht by Sebastian van Noyen and completed in 1671 under Governor Jean Charles de Landas . The French troops of Louis XIV planted linden trees, paved the square and used it as a parade ground .
The Palais Cercle Municipal is located on the Place d'Armes .
At the western end of the Place d'Armes is the Square Jan Palach ( Jan Palach Square ). There is - next to a plaque commemorating Jan Palach - a monument by Pierre Federspiel in honor of the two national poets Edmond de la Fontaine (called Dicks ; 1823-1891) and Michel Lentz (1820-1893), authors of the Luxembourg national anthem.
