Bob Peak

Bob Peak (* the 30th May 1927 ; † 1. August 1992 ) was an American advertising illustrator , who was best known for his movie posters, whose works but also the covers of Time magazine , the Sports Illustrated and TV Guide ed .

Peak was born in Denver but grew up in Kansas . While studying at Wichita State University , he majored in geology , but after his military service in the Korean War, he moved to the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles , where he graduated in 1951. His promotional illustrator career began two years later when he moved to New York City and ran the advertising campaign for Old Hickory Whiskey .

In 1961 he came to the United Artists film studios , which hired him to advertise the film West Side Story . Other well-known works are the movie posters for the films in the Star Trek series , Apocalypse Now , The Spy Who Loved Me, and Rollerball .

He received one of the greatest honors when he designed the commemorative stamps for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the subsequent 1984 Winter Games in Sarajevo for the United States Postal Service . Time Magazine also printed Peaks' works on a total of 45 cover images.
