Planet X is an American fusion metal band.

history

Derek Sherinian and Virgil Donati worked together on Sherinian's 1999 solo album Planet X and decided that same year to form a band . They found Tony MacAlpine as a regular guitarist . Bass has been played live and on albums by many different guest musicians over the years, and since MacAlpine left the band in 2004, Sherinian and Donati have remained the only permanent members of the ensemble. According to Sherinian, his intention was to found a group whose members “ have mastered their instruments so much that they bring fear into the hearts of other musicians through their playing ”.

According to Sherinian, Planet X is the first "Metal Fusion" band to be based in Southern California.

The new CD Quantum was released in German-speaking countries on May 18, 2007.

style

Planet X's music is exclusively instrumental. Dissonances and crooked bars are often used. Also polyrhythms is more common, for example in the piece Midnight Bell in the places keyboards and drums in a different time signature play than the guitar.
