description

Plantago orzuiensis is an annual plant that reaches a stature height of about 27 centimeters. It forms a distinct stem with alternate leaves. The sterile part of the stem is unbranched and hairy. The internodes are 1.8 to 2.5 inches long. The fertile portion of the stem is approximately four inches long. The leaves are 8 to 10 × 0.5 to 1 centimeters in size, lanceolate, encompassing the stem, downy hairy, with entire margins and seven-veined. The leaf stalks are 5.5 to 7 inches long.

The 12 to 17 inches long stalked ears are 3.5 to 7 inches long and cylindrical. The bracts of the flowers rise above the sepals and are boat-shaped, 5 to 6 × 2.8 to 3 millimeters in size and pointed. Their edge is membranous and ciliate as well as keeled and finely haired on the midrib. The sepals are egg-shaped, 3.5 to 4 millimeters long, asymmetrical, finely hairy on the midrib, ciliate at the tip and with a membranous edge. The anterior sepals have a narrower midrib, are 0.5 to 0.75 millimeters long and only ciliate at the tip. The posterior sepals have a broader midrib, are 1 to 1.5 millimeters long and ciliate on both the tip and one side. The corolla tube is bald and 2 to 2.5 millimeters long. The corolla lobes are egg-shaped, pointed, wire-haired and 2 to 2.5 × 1 to 1.2 millimeters in size. The anthers are winged at the top. The wing is 1.1 to 1.25 millimeters long, red-brown and pointed. The two seeds are 2.5 to 2.7 millimeters long, brown, and their surface is slimy.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.
