Plasmabeta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The plasma beta ( ) is the ratio of thermal to magnetic pressure in a plasma .

It is thus defined as

.

The value is used to describe the behavior of cosmic plasma with a magnetic field, such as B. the solar wind or to describe the plasma in a nuclear fusion reactor . In order for a plasma to be confined by a magnetic field , must apply.
