The Plastic Pin Grid Array ( PPGA ) is a housing design for electronic chips , such as. B. Processors . The semiconductor chip is on a support of plastic material (engl. Plastic ) fixed.
Plastic pin grid arrays were developed in 1993. Unlike Ceramic Pin Grid Arrays (CPGA), this carrier material has a higher thermal resistance , improved electrical performance and better load distribution. These factors directly influence the performance of the built-in microprocessor, as they are particularly sensitive to overheating.
This design was mainly used in the Pentium MMX processors and the Celeron ("Mendocino" for Socket 370 ).
