  • Coppermine (500–1133 MHz)
  • Tualatin (1000–1400 MHz)

VIA Cyrix III / VIA C3 (500–1200 MHz)

The socket 370 is a processor socket for Celeron - and Pentium III processors and pin and protocol-compatible processors Cyrix III - and C3 -series of VIA .

There are three different versions of the base 370:

  • For Celerons of the Mendocino series in PPGA housing
  • For the Pentium III and Celerons of the Coppermine series
  • For the Pentium III as well as Celerons of the Tualatin series

These different versions were partially downward compatible, but not upwardly compatible:

  • In a Socket 370 motherboard of the first generation, only Mendocino Celerons in PPGA housing worked.
  • In a Socket 370 motherboard of the second generation, Pentium III and Celeron CPUs with Coppermine cores worked, often also the older Mendocino Celerons in PPGA housing.
  • In a Socket 370 motherboard of the third generation, Pentium III and Celeron CPUs with a Tualatin core worked, and often CPUs with a Coppermine core. The use of a PPGA Celeron was no longer possible.

The cause of the incompatibilities are changes in the power supply and the signal levels of the bus protocol or individual signals. However, especially with the third Socket 370 generation, there are rumors of a "deliberate" incompatibility, since Intel wanted to phase out the Pentium III in favor of the Pentium 4 and the Celeron and Pentium III CPUs of the Tualatin series only for the OEM, server and mobile market were intended and were no longer actively promoted.

Socket 370 has been replaced by Socket 423 for the Pentium 4.
