The base 2066 , as LGA 2066 is designated, a processor socket for Intel - processors with Kaby Lake -X- microarchitecture 4 processor cores and with Skylake -X-microarchitecture 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 processor cores .
It replaces socket 2011-3 in the high-end segment (for gaming and high-performance workstations); the server segment of this architecture covers socket 3647 .
Like its predecessors, Sockets 2011 and 2011-3, the socket supports a quad-channel mode in which up to 4 DDR4 memory modules can be accessed simultaneously, which enables the possible transfer rate to be doubled compared to dual-channel memory controllers.
The socket is compatible with Skylake X, W and Kaby Lake X processors. With the exception of Kaby Lake-X, all compatible processors belong to the Skylake-SP family and thus support the new instruction set extension AVX-512 .
The X299 Lewisburg acts as the chipset.
