The base 6 was a CPU socket for the Intel i486 processor. It was developed by Intel at the end of the product life cycle of the Intel i486 as a slightly modified version of the popular Socket 3 . Due to the late development it was only used on a few mainboards , especially because it had few advantages over the old Socket 3.

With the phasing out of the i486 series from Intel , Socket 6 had no direct successor.
