Plato Island (in Argentina Islote Plato , in the United Kingdom Platter Island , each translated mutatis mutandis serving plate island ) is a small island off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 1.5 km east of Darwin Island in the group of Danger Islands southeast of Joinville Island .
The island was given its descriptive name in 1978 by the Ministry of Defense of Argentina. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred this designation in 1993 in a partial translation into English. In contrast, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided on a full translation as early as 1982.
