The Platow Brief ( proper spelling : DER PLATOW Brief ) is an information service for business, capital markets and politics. Three times a week, the letter provides up-to-date background information from the world of finance, analyzes of international capital markets, the economy and interest rates on four pages. In addition, supplements on the subject of real estate, law or current priorities from the world of business and banking are published several times a week.

history

The Platow Brief was founded in Hamburg in 1945 by the business journalist Robert Platow . Platow, who had previously published economic information services, used the fact that confidential information letters were not mentioned in the regulations of the British occupying power for press licensing as a loophole to provide the German economy with current news and information. Thanks to Platow's good contacts with the economy and ministries in Bonn, the Platow letter also contained exclusive information. The so-called " Platow Affair " caused a greater stir in 1951 when Platow was taken into custody for 44 days after the publication of a draft bill for a planned antitrust law.

Robert Platow sold the company to Bertelsmann in 1967 , and the editorial team moved from Hamburg to Frankfurt am Main. The business journalist and economist Gerhard Czerwensky was editor-in-chief of the Platow Brief from 1969 to 1988. In 1990 Albrecht F. Schirmacher took over the chief editor, who in 1999 moved to the position of editor. Since then, Frank Mahlmeister has been editor-in-chief of the Platow Brief.

In 2003 Bertelsmann and its specialist publishers also sold the Platow Brief, which from then on belonged to the science publisher Springer Science + Business Media . At the same time, in 2003 the publishing program was offered online as PDF editions in individual sales, as a supplement to the classic publishing subscription. On January 1, 2013, Albrecht F. Schirmacher acquired the Platow Brief as part of a management buy-out, which has since been part of the PLATOW Medien GmbH founded by Schirmacher.
