Pleiad class (1905)
The Pleiad- class was a class of 17 1st class torpedo boats of the Swedish Navy that were built from 1905 to 1910. In 1928/29 the boats were modernized (the type ship Plejad as early as 1926) and reclassified to patrol boats ("Vedettbåt"); the torpedo tubes were removed. The Pleiad was built in France, the rest of the boats at various Swedish shipyards .
Technical specifications
The boats were 40.2 m long (39 m in the waterline ) and 4.40 m wide and had a draft of 2.60–2.70 m . They displaced 97 t (standard) and up to 120 t (maximum). They were powered by a triple expansion steam engine with 2000 hp , two boilers and a screw and reached a top speed of 26 knots . The coal supply was 17 tons. The boats were armed with two individual 45.7 cm torpedo tubes (one fixed in the bow , one pivoting on the quarterdeck) and two 37 mm cannons. During the modernization in 1926/28, they received two 57-mm cannons and the torpedo tubes were removed. The crew numbered 25 men.
Eight of the boats were still in service until 1947.
