The Pliesmühle is now a stud for thoroughbred horses . The listed, historically valuable building is located on Sandstrasse in Quadrath-Ichendorf in the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district .

history

The Pliesmühle is mentioned for the first time in a chronicle, the details of which can be dated to the years 1187 to 1196. The property belonged to the Brauweiler Abbey. It appears under its current name for the first time in 1525. Mills that were also used for grinding and polishing weapons and harnesses are called "Pleißmühlen". In 1595 the Raitz von Frentz family acquired the mill at Schloss Frens from the Brauweiler Abbey. The mill was leased from the noble family. During the census of 1799, the miller Theodor Koenen lived with his family on the Pliesmühle. In 1837, the Pliesmühle had a grinder, two oil presses and two undershot water wheels.

architecture

The actual mill building on the Erft is two-story and has a hipped roof. It was built in the 18th century. The adjoining Wilhelminian style house consists of plastered brick and was built in 1887. Mill operations were stopped around 1950. The Pliesmühle has been home to a thoroughbred stud since the mid-1980s.

The Pliesmühle is registered with monument number 16 as a monument in the list of architectural monuments in Quadrath-Ichendorf . The description reads:

The object is a mill building, the core of which dates back to the 17th century and was expanded to a courtyard at the end of the 19th century. It was originally the mill at Frens Castle. The grinder was preserved in parts. The main house is a two-story brick building made of 5 axes, plastered on the front. Coat of arms with the year 1887 above the upper floor of the third axis. The cellar has Prussian cap vaults throughout.
