Pločnik ( Serbian - Cyrillic Плочник ) is a village in the municipality of Prokuplje in southern Serbia . According to the 2002 census, 182 people lived in the village.

The place is known from the battle of Pločnik in 1386. The Ottoman Sultan Murad I led an army against the Serbian prince Lazar Hrebeljanović . The Ottomans lost the battle, but were able to conquer the city of Niš some time later with reinforcements .

During archaeological excavations in the vicinity of the place, a prehistoric settlement with objects made of copper such as axes and chisels from the 6th millennium BC was found. These finds, which are attributed to the Vinča culture , are currently the oldest smelted copper objects in the world and are up to 800 years older than the previously known Neolithic finds.
